My own backyard

Montagu mountains light up at Sunrise

I live in a small town about 200km (North East, inland) from CapeTown, an area known as the Little Karoo. Well known for the hot dry summers, awesome winters and sweetest fruit you can imagine.

Surrounded by majestic mountains and fruit trees, I live in paradise. Closer to heaven one cannot get. This pic was taken from the back of our house, on my early morning stroll (I have convinced myself I need the exercise, but getting out and smelling the roses - ermmm, the apricots I mean - means more to me than any amount of walking.

Come bask in the beauty with me!

Who's watching who?!

It seems the cheetah is also enjoying the chance to check things out from a higher vantage point!

Precious life

I thought the hair on this little Elly's head was just too sweet! Not to mention his expression and the look in his eyes.

This is the life!

Africa has boiling hot summers - but who needs to only cool down if you can have a wash too, not to mention throwing in some beer!

The balance and ease with which this guy puts his bike through its paces is astounding! Hope you enjoy his skill as much as I did!

Inventive!!

In spite of less money, I believe these youngsters have a richer life than the modern youth of today - inspite of all the technology at their fingertips!

Rising sun in Namibia.

I took this at Gochas, during my recent motorbike trip to Namibia. (Read about it here: www.biking2nowhere.com ). What an awesome sight as we were packing up our tents ready to tackle another hard day in a beautiful country!

Why this blog?!?

I love Africa! I am born in South Africa and have been a tour guide for many years before we settled in the countryside  Where I live now, I am surrounded by apricot orchards and mountains and get to see the most glorious sunsets and -rises, full moons and dark, starry nights!

During my guiding years I got to see a large part of my country and especially the nicest parts and places. Because I am fortunate enough to live in this vast beautiful continent, I would like to share with you how I see Africa. Sometimes hilarious and strange, other times might be a depressing reality. Either way, it is the world I live in and the world I love!

Come see it through my eyes!

Please feel free to leave a comment as I enjoy any form of interaction. Let me know the positive and the negative - what you think of the day's pic. I would love to hear from you!
